Meta announced several updates to its Forum group chat app, including badges for top contributors, related answers from different groups and topic labels to help drive discovery.
Launched in May, Meta’s Forum app aims to convert Facebook Groups into more of a question-and-answer focused interactive process, along the lines of Quora and Reddit.

The idea is that this will increase groups functionality by enabling people to get more value from discussions and tapping into the collective knowledge of dedicated communities.
Though, really, the primary goal for Meta seems to be driving more direct questions and answers, which the company can then use to power its artificial intelligence responses.
Reddit has become a valuable source of information for AI chatbots because it provides structured, vetted responses to user questions, which can help to guide AI tools to the most relevant answers.
With Forum, Meta is trying to replicate this same functionality and improve the quality of its own AI bot replies.
First, Meta wants to incentivize community contributions through new recognition badges that will be awarded to top community voices and experts.

That could prompt more experts to answer more questions, helping to improve feedback flow.
As explained by Meta: “The role is earned through contributions that genuinely help a community, such as answering questions, sharing firsthand experiences, offering practical tips and recommendations, and starting conversations that bring people together. The role comes with a new badge and new benefits, including posts that publish faster.”
Meta is also testing a new display of answers from different groups related to each query. Users can then choose the best answer from all available group responses.

The company is also adding topic labels to guide discovery.

Again, the main focus here is on connecting regular users’ questions with the highest quality answers from Facebook group communities, which could then provide more guidance for Meta’s AI responses.
Meta is dressing this up as a value-add, but really, it seems that the real value of the app is for machines, not humans.
