LinkedIn has rolled out a tool for Premium users called Post Proofreader that replaces the platform’s artificial intelligence-powered post enhancement option, which was removed last month. The now-discontinued tool enabled users to revise their updates with AI tools in-stream.

This new feature has a somewhat similar function, with some important changes. As explained by LinkedIn: “Post Proofreader helps eligible Premium members improve post drafts before publishing. You can review suggested changes and decide whether to apply them.”

Rather than offering a means to re-create posts with AI, which made it easier for LinkedIn users to misrepresent themselves using AI slop, LinkedIn wants to rebrand this process by calling it proofreading. The shift is being positioned as a means to improve post language, as opposed to generating an idea or thought that didn’t originate from the user.

“Post Proofreader helps you improve a post draft by showing suggested changes before they're applied,” LinkedIn said. “Suggestions appear with inline change tracking, so you can review what changed and stay in control of your content.”

LinkedIn Premium users will be able to choose from three enhancement options:

The focus here is on making the language and presentation of a post better, as opposed to letting LinkedIn users generate something completely new that may not represent them.

The platform clearly identified this as a problem. Last month, LinkedIn launched an AI slop reporting option, which let users flag content they believed was AI-generated. Less than three weeks after launching the option, LinkedIn reported that it had been used more than one million times, which reflects the growing opposition to AI-generated content in the app.

LinkedIn expanded its AI slop reporting option to comments earlier this month.

The rebranding of its post enhancement option to a proofreading tool further underlines the platform’s evolving approach to AI in general.
